INTRODUCTION TO MARBLING

With Saskia Pomeroy

Paper marbling is the fluid application of colour swirls and patterns onto paper. Marbling is a dying and ancient art, with very few professional marblers still practicing. It has been used over the centuries as a way to decorate books, boxes and even wall coverings. The process was historically a closely guarded secret.

In this workshop, you will learn how to prepare your materials and papers, and learn a variety of techniques to create different effects. At the end of this workshop, you should have all the knowledge you need to begin marbling at home as well as all the beautiful marbled paper you have created on the day.

ABOUT SASKIA POMEROY

Saskia Pomeroy lives and works in London as a visual artist and freelance designer. The Glasgow School of Art graduate works with print, drawing, painting, sculpture and textiles. Her work explores the relationships within compositions of colour, texture and shapes, sometimes abstract, sometimes observational. It is bright, colourful and joyous. Her time as a commercial screen printer at K2 Screen directly informs her style. She frequently uses contrasting finishes, colour overlays and technical detail, bringing an added dimension to her print work. This is also true of her painting, which although more illustrative, is often an abstraction of real forms and themes such as nature, ancient art, glyphs and symbols.
