A TROPICAL MODERNIST REFUGE

Perched on the edge of Mingshi river, the strikingly beautiful resort first catches the eye with its design. Minimal, yes. Impersonal? Absolutely not. Humble materials that weather beautifully like wood, stone, and copper exist alongside organic textures and a color palette that mimics nature: earthy tones, greys, and rusts. Tree trunks and large stones are left undisturbed. Perfectly imperfect. Tropical foliage and greenery seep through, blurring the line between indoor and outdoor living. There is something freeing about the vast spaces flooded with natural light, and the proximity to the river and nature. One inspiration is the traditional stilted Ganlan house of the Zhuang minority, ever so appropriate in these tropical provinces of China. This is the very definition of escapism.
