Attention, dreamers: the lighter, brighter experiences at LUX* Resorts & Hotels now include a Tree of Wishes – and each tree has its own tales to tell…
Imaginative and uplifting: this new Reason to Go LUX* is a chance for guests to reach for their dreams while being part of unique interactive artworks. Local artisans and in-house creatives are cultivating and crafting Trees of Wishes at each resort by adapting real trees in the flower-filled gardens and by using upcycled materials such as metals and fiberglass to make these sculptures. At night, these mystical shapes are dramatically illuminated. And, in line with the LUX* Tread Lightly program, each objet d’art is utterly eco-friendly and constructed entirely in-house.
Reminiscent of Japan’s ancient Tanabata festival wishing trees, and Brazil’s pretty Bonfim wish ribbons, the brightly coloured streamers blow soul-stirringly in the breeze from the far-reaching branches which represent eternal life. The first enchanting creation is LUX* Belle Mare’s artist’s impression of a baobab, the indigenous chunky-trunked African adansonia also known as the ‘tree of life’. LUX* Le Morne’s Tree of Wishes is lovingly constructed from metal and recycled materials by the resort’s very own Executive Chef, while LUX* Grand Gaube and LUX* Maldives are both sprinkling a little magic on existing trees in their lush, green grounds, such as the flowering Flamboyant.

3 Enjoy time away knowing that one ribbon
picked at the end of the year
will win its owner a free holiday…
At check-in, guests are given ribbons marked with their initials and the date of their stay, which they are invited to tie to the tree during a special drinks evening. Add a ribbon to the tree, and throw coins of any currency into a nearby wishing well – whether this improves chances of wishes coming true or not it certainly helps locals: all donations raised go to a charity such as the Thalassemia Society of Mauritius, an NGO dedicated to improving the life of children with this genetic blood disorder (thalassemiasociety.org).
