At LUX*, we aim to lead the way to a brighter future, while
leaving only the slightest trace of our presence on the
environment.
Tread Lightly Initiative
Our Tread Lightly initiative aims both to offset 100% of
CO2 emissions generated by our properties by the end of
2012, and to also radically reduce CO2 emissions by 20%
by the end of 2012.
To date, LUX* is proud to announce that through cooperation with
award-winning carbon management specialists, Carbon Footprint Ltd,
we are entirely carbon neutral. By allocating an amount from the
price of each guest night into the Tread Lightly Fund we were able
to invest in a significant internal carbon-reduction strategy,
focused on solar-power, LED lighting replacement, wind turbines and
the recycling of greywater.
A Green Committee has also been appointed to ensure full
coordination between our three LUX* destinations of Mauritius, the
Maldives and Reunion Island. In this way, each resort can learn and
improve through the experiences of the others.
From the way we use power and resources, to the way we reduce
waste and save water - we're just as committed to the wellbeing of
our environment as we are to our guests.

The GML Joseph Lagesse Foundation
The GML Joseph Lagesse Foundation is a non-profit organisation
founded in 2005 by the CEO of GML (formerly Groupe Mon Loisir),
Arnaud Lagesse. In July 2009, it became compulsory for all
Mauritian companies to use 2% of their profits after tax for
Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. This budget can be put
to use in specific spheres with registered organisations authorised
by the National CSR Committee (NGO, Special Purpose Vehicle or
National Programmes) or given to the Mauritius Revenue Authority
(MRA) as a tax.
During the past year, LUX* has contributed Rs 2.8m to the GML
Joseph Lagesse Foundation, which funds numerous projects to aid the
alleviation of poverty, provide healthcare to the those in need,
protect the environment and promote education and training in local
communities.
At LUX*, we believe that education is key and have made it our
biggest priority. As such, we offer educational programmes not only
to our staff, but also to children in local schools, ensuring that
future generations are raised as informed, responsible adults.
Besides its own projects, the GML Joseph Lagesse Foundation also
helps various other Mauritian NGOs.
Through the shared efforts and contributions of the company,
employees and local communities, we believe that the world really
will have a lighter, brighter future.
